Stealing Lego from Spalding store costs Surfleet shoplifter £200
Stealing £33 worth of Lego has cost a shoplifter £200.
A ‘stupid decision’ saw Edvina Piragis take two packs of the popular building block toy from Spalding’s B&M store on October 5.
When he appeared at Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday he was ordered to pay out a much larger sum in fines and costs – enough to purchase a number of coveted Lego sets including a Hogwarts Castle, Millennium Falcon or Captain America Shield.
Prosecutor Alison McIlroy said the offence was spotted on the store’s CCTV cameras.
“He made his way to the toy section before concealing two items in a plastic bag,” she said.

“Two items were taken but the items were recovered.”
Representing 31-year-old Piragis, Helen Coney said this offence was ‘out of the ordinary’ for the defendant.
“He knows this was a daft decision on the day,” she said.
“He is on Universal Credit and means were tight.”
Piragis, of Newlands Road, Surfleet, pleaded guilty to stealing Lego valued at £32.98.
District Judge Peter Veits told the defendant he had made a ‘stupid decision’ and fined him £80.
Piragis must also pay £85 costs and the £32 surcharge.
