Shoppers ‘pleased to see life back in Spalding’ as The Furniture Warehouse opens its doors
Shoppers flocked to the grand opening of a new furniture shop – which has taken over a former department store site.
The Furniture Warehouse welcomed shoppers through the doors of its new shop in Bridge Street, Spalding, after transforming the former Beales site.
Joe Ashby, who has worked for the business, said: “People are pleased to see life back in Spalding.
“You can’t beat our prices online and in our actual other shops.”
The last two to three weeks has seen workers getting the store ready to open with four staff currently employed and further job opportunities available.
Tony Pignatiello, who works as a furniture expert, said: “The opening went extremely well.
“Saturday and Sunday was mega and a lot of people loved it and bought items.
“We have had excellent feedback – prices are very keen.
“It is extremely good quality at reasonable prices.
“People can pop in and have a chat.”
The Furniture Warehouse will be relocating its existing branch in Market Deeping into the larger new Spalding site. Its final trading day will be Tuesday, March 12.
Bedroom, living room and dining room furniture is displayed on the ground and first floor of the shop, which has been closed for nearly four years.
The other part of the building is used by The Original Factory Shop on Market Place and the use of the units is positive news with the recent loss of Hughes, Halifax and Barclays.
Progress to restore Spalding’s business position is taking up momentum since it was announced that prominent businessman Robin Hancox has been appointed to lead the Spalding Town Board, which will have the responsibility to spend the £20million Levelling Up money provided by the Government over the next decade.
Spalding Business Board was also created last year as the town considers creating a Business Improvement District. Shops and businesses would be asked to pay a levy to fund developments in the town centre if the proposal comes to fruition.
