A ‘sickening’ man found guilty of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 has been told to expect jail.

The 55-year-old committed the crime in December 2022 and will now be sentenced in the new year.

A judge told Fawcett, of Cluttons Close, to expect several years behind bars.

DC Katherine Brennan, who worked on the case, praised the courage of the victim and their family in the case, while also praising her colleagues who worked on the investigation.

“Fawcett’s behaviour was sickening and totally unacceptable,” she said.

“Children represent the most vulnerable people in our society and his actions show a disregard for his victim’s age and wellbeing.

“We will do everything in our power to bring people who perpetrate such crimes to justice. This will not be tolerated in Lincolnshire.”

DC Brennan added: “I’d like to thank the victim and their family for their bravery throughout this ordeal – we know it’s incredibly difficult, but their contribution has helped secure a conviction.

“I’d also like to pay tribute to the police officers and staff involved in this investigation, it was a team effort, and this result would not have been possible without their hard work."

A Lincolnshire Police statement said:If you’ve been the victim of rape, sexual assault, or any other sexual offence, please report it to us as soon as possible.

“Even if you’re not 100 per cent sure, we want to hear from you so that we can make sure you’re safe.

“If you’re not ready to talk to the police just yet, that’s OK.”

Fawcett will be sentenced on January 9.
