Moulton Chapel couple suffer cracks and floods amid 'massive impact' of 'ski slope' building site

A family who live next door to a controversial development are calling on the builder to ‘show a bit of heart’ to existing villagers.

Dean and Jessica Tanner have found cracks in the side of their home in Roman Road, Moulton Chapel, and their garden was flooded recently after a dyke was filled in.

The couple and their three children live next to the entrance road to the Allison Homes Chapel Gate development. Work has been paused due to concerns about the raised levels of the site.

Mr and Mrs Tanner are worried about a car coming off the road - dubbed a ‘ski slope’ into their back garden.

Mrs Tanner said: “We have lived here for nearly seven years and this is having a massive impact.

“This is the first time we have had flooding in our garden. I am not an unreasonable person. I know that if you have a field behind you there is a chance homes will built there but we don’t expect it to these levels.

“I am hoping that Allison Homes will work with existing residents and have a bit of heart about what is going on and how it is affecting people.”

Work started in February when villagers noticed lorries delivering materials and heavy rollers working.

The Tanners have found cracks inside and outside their home with cement falling onto the path . They were alerted to this by a builder constructing an extension.

Mrs Tanner said: “We have spoken to a guy on the site and he has promised that he is getting a bricklayer and he has promised that for four weeks.”

The family have also had to deal with vibrations all day - sometimes starting at 7.10am - along with dust.

She is also calling for a brick wall at her perimeter and has raised concerns about the height.

Mrs Tanner said: “People walking on the path will be able to see into our garden and into our bedroom.

“If you stand at the bottom of our plot, they have some fencing that is up to 7ft. When a man is standing there you can see up to his stomach.

“If you look at the estate on the other side of road they haven’t got to be built at these heights and yet we are having to deal with these ridiculous heights.

“I have asked for a brick wall as I felt that something that is a strong boundary if a car comes off the road would gives us a bit of a chance. Apparently they don’t have a budget to do that.”

South Holland district councillor Anthony Casson said that in some cases, the heights of the building are 1.4m and 1.7m from the ground.

He said: “Allison Homes have told our planning officers that they will be sending in another planning application.

“Hopefully it will be more sensible application - and lower.

“I have a lot of sympathy for the residents.”

A spokesperson at Allison Homes said: “We understand residents’ concerns and remain grateful to them and the wider community for their patience.

“We are in discussion with the local authority regarding the site and will update residents as soon as more information is available.”
