Officers say the journey will begin at 9am, with West Bank, Bridge Road, the A17, Wisbech Road and Main Road all affected en route to Lynn Road in Wisbech.

The generator in question is said to be about 89m (292 ft) long, 5m wide (16.5ft), and 5m high. The weight of the components is said to be 706020kg (706 tonnes).

A police spokesman said: “Once we reach Lynn Road, the generator will remain there until transshipment has taken place. Norfolk will then continue with the escort to the end destination of Walpole.

“The route taken has been approved by National Highways and local councils. A more direct route is not always feasible for abnormal Loads of this size. Movement is not permitted during the hours of darkness within Lincolnshire.

“We know it can be frustrating being delayed on the road and we thank you for your patience.”
