Snowdrops and water butt stolen from St Matthew’s Church in Sutton Bridge
Snowdrops have been stolen from a churchyard.
Members of St Matthew’s Church in Sutton Bridge have reported that the flowers along with a water butt had been stolen earlier today (Tuesday, March 18).
Church warden Kevin Wheeler says 20 patches of flowers have been targeted by vandals to sell on.
This is another blow for St Matthew’s Church in Sutton Bridge which has been vandalised in the past.
Mr Wheeler said: “We have had vandals again at the church.
“They have dug up and taken the snowdrops, left holes everywhere.
“I have never had it happen before.
“If someone had taken one bunch I could understand but to take that many they will probably sell them.
“It is quite expensive to buy a bunch of snowdrops so I imagine that is why it happened.
“The water butt may be sold on for scrap metal.”
Lincolnshire Police have been informed and Mr Wheeler says local police will look into any similar incidents happening in the area.
A police spokesperson said: “Incident 139 of 18 March relates to a report of theft at St Matthew's Church on Bridge Road, Sutton Bridge.
“This was reported at 10.38am today.
“Snowdrops and a water butt were reported stolen. Enquiries are ongoing.”
