Spaces available on garden waste collection scheme
Following the successful pilot scheme and great demand from across the district, South Holland residents in eligible areas are being invited to register for the district council's newly-expanded garden waste collection service.
Previously, only 3,600 households in the district across 10 collection routes were able to subscribe to the service, as only one vehicle was equipped to lift and empty the garden waste wheelie bins.
However, another vehicle has now been adapted and has become operational, allowing for 10 more routes to be added to the collections.
Everyone who was already on the waiting list has now been contacted, and there has been a great uptake for new households joining the service.
Following the completion of this list, the scheme is now being opened up to people across the district from 10am on Monday, October 1 to take up the remaining spaces available in the scheme.
Anyone interested can apply to join the service by visiting www.sholland.gov.uk/GardenWaste and filling in the online web form on the page. Residents can also come into the Priory Road offices in Spalding to use the self-serve machines where staff will be happy to help you to complete the online form.
If your route is already fully subscribed, or collections are not yet available to your postcode, you are given the option to add your details to the register of interest which will help shape future routes and support possible further expansions of the service.
Subscribing to the fortnightly service at £49 per year (plus a one-off delivery charge for the brown wheelie bin) costs less than £1 a week. All collected garden waste is composted.
Coun Roger Gambba-Jones, portfolio holder for place, said: "Our pilot garden waste scheme was very successful and we are delighted to be offering even more residents an affordable, convenient and eco-friendly method of disposing of their garden waste.
"We hope to offer this service to up to 90 per cent of households across the district and seeing the appetite of residents to be part of the scheme is fantastic.
"I'd like to apologise to those residents who have found the wait for us to expand the service somewhat frustrating and thank them for their patience, understanding and most importantly, continued support for this service.
"If you are interested but your route is currently full or we are yet to reach your area, please do sign up to the register of interest as it serves as a vital resource to show us where the demand for greater provision in the district lies."
