Space magazine’s front cover nods to South Holland’s colourful history

Tulip fields can be seen from space… according to the eyecatching front cover of this magazine.

And the idea of giving a nod to South Holland’s colourful past stirred the memories of editor-in-chief Clive Simpson, who began his career in journalism with the Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian.

ROOM Space Journal, a magazine for anyone interested in space exploration, has a reputation throughout the global space business for dynamic and creative covers.

And their latest front will certainly bring back memories for South Holland residents and fans of the Spalding Flower Parade.

“Our covers always combine a space element with an aspect of life on Earth,” said Clive.

“I was delighted when our designer came up with an idea to use tulip fields on our latest issue.

“Though Lincolnshire’s tulip fields have long since disappeared it was an unexpected nod to my past, having grown up in the area and had my first reporter’s job in Spalding.”

Clive, who now lives near Sleaford and specialises in writing as a freelance about space and the environment, has been editing ROOM Space Journal since it was launched in 2015.

“I’ve always had an interested in space and so working in the industry as a writer and editor is like a dream come true,” he added.

“With ROOM we have created a reputation for high quality and forward-looking articles which, like our front covers, are presented in a dynamic and exciting way.

“Our latest issue includes articles on space-based solar power, terraforming Mars and the importance of making space exploration sustainable to name just a few.

Clive is also completing the final chapters of his first novel, a dystopian and futuristic thriller set in the fens of South Holland.
