New president for Spalding Gentlemen's Society
Spalding Gentlemen's Society welcomed a new president at its Annual General Meeting.
Retiring President Professor Michael Chisholm, who has served the SGS admirably in various roles over the years, welcomed Tom Grimes as his successor. In accepting the position, Tom paid tribute to Michael for his tireless work.
Tom joined the Spalding Gentlemen’s Society in 1998 and was elected to the Council of the Society in 2007. Since then he has held the offices of curator and vice president and is currently chairman of the Council and curator of coins and tokens.
In his curatorial roles he has concentrated on installing systems for record keeping within the museum, as well as publicising the Society and museum and encouraging visits from the Spalding area and further afield. He also gives talks to local organisations about the Society and the museum.
Now retired, Tom’s career was in financial services. He was born and brought up in south Lincolnshire and attended grammar schools in Bourne and Boston. Nowadays he lives in Thurlby.
Tom said he sees his job as steering the Society through some interesting times, as it needs to expand and upgrade its premises, which is likely to require a major fundraising effort.
