Trial of man from Spalding charged in connection with the supply and fitting of memorial headstones is adjourned for four months

The trial of a Spalding man accused of failing to supply memorial headstones to his customers has been delayed for four months.

Julian Karl Gaunt (50), of Queen's Road, was due to go on trial at Lincoln Crown Court today (Tuesday).

However, the court was told that the trial could not go ahead as both Gaunt's legal representatives and Lincolnshire County Council, which is bringing the prosecution, required more time to consider the case.

At a previous court hearing in November 2018, Gaunt had pleaded not guilty to eight charges of fraud relating to the supply and fitting of memorial headstones between October 20, 2015 and July 22, 2016.

Gaunt had also denied a further charge of theft of a memorial headstone between July 1 and December 31, 2016.

Reorder Gareth Evans QC adjourned the case for trial at Lincoln Crown Court on September 30 this year.

The trial is expected to last three days and, until then, Gaunt was granted bail.
