Spalding Pumpkin Festival returns on Saturday
Spalding Pumpkin Festival is set to return this weekend – and organisers hope it will encourage visitors to celebrate the district’s horticulture and harvest traditions.
The event will be held in the town centre this Saturday (October 7) between 11am and 3pm and will include a variety of activities for the whole family.
Alongside the usual market traders, there will be a wide selection of food and drink options along with some crafts and gifts from artisan stalls.
Visitors can enjoy some live entertainment from the ‘Pumpkin Stage’ – where Cinderella will be performing alongside an array of musical artists and the cast for this year’s Beauty and the Beast pantomime production.
Visitors will be able to take a stroll down ‘Pumpkin Street’ and enjoy handcrafted pumpkin sculptures created by artists Jonathan Nicholls and Paul Crewe. There will also be a Scarecrow Town Trail and photo opportunities in the ‘autumn globe’.
The South Holland Centre will be hosting a ‘cinema’ viewing of Beauty and the Beast, with the chance to meet some special guests after the show. Tickets can be booked by visiting the website.
Broad Street Methodist Church is set to host a free autumnal craft session alongside a coffee morning between 10am and 1pm. Spalding Library will also be welcoming visitors to take part in a range of fun throughout the day.
Councillor Tracey Carter said: “The pumpkin festival is one of the events I know many of our residents look forward to all year round, and as a council it’s fantastic that we are able to celebrate our long history of horticulture and harvest whist having fun together and supporting our local businesses and traders.
“I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to come along to this year’s event, a huge amount of work has gone in from the team to create a jam-packed day with a little something for everyone to enjoy.”
Residents have been reminded that a road closure is in place for Spalding’s Sheep Market and Gore Lane on Saturday, October 7 from 7am until 4.30pm.
