Spalding Punchbowl landlady Steph home after successful 'op'
Punchbowl pub landlady Steph Williams is home after a successful operation to remove a surgical mesh implant that left her in agony for more than a year.
Steph (62) had surgery in London on Wednesday and was well enough to return home to Spalding on Sunday, although she faces a long convalescence.
Husband Pete says: “The operation was a huge success and, in lots of respects, she feels better and more comfortable than she did before she went in.”
There’s massive controversy surrounding mesh implants, which have been used in place of hysterectomies or to treat stress incontinence.
Many patients, like Steph, were left in agony, some ending up in wheelchairs or walking with sticks.
Well-wishers around the world, including from New Zealand and Australia, have joined friends and customers in sending messages of support.
Steph’s surgery involved mesh removal, along with removal of four hooks, and a hysterectomy.
