Spalding shoplifter jailed for six weeks




A man who stole a bicycle and shovels worth a total of £670 from two Spalding stores has been jailed.

Matthew Dye (32, of West Parade, Spalding, was given a six-week prison sentence by Lincoln magistrates after he admitted stealing the 11 shovels from B and Q on April 23 and the bicycle from Halfords on November 5, 2017.

Dye was also sentenced for driving whilst disqualified and failing to stop for police, both while driving along Queen's Road, Spalding, on March 25.

On the same day, Dye stole five bottles of whisky worth a total of £150 from Sainsbury's in Bourne, a charge to which he also pleaded guilty and was sentenced.

Along with the jail term, magistrates banned Dye from driving for two years and ordered him to pay compensation of £50 to Sainsbury's.
