Spalding Bakery could have new owners
A baking manufacturer could be the new owner of the Spalding Bakery factory.
David Wood Foods has been advertising for staff at a factory in Fulney Lane - including this sign close to the Spalding Bakery site - in recent weeks.
The former Spalding Bakery site, which was previously the George Adams factory in Fulney Lane, was sold by the Addo Group last year.
The company has been in contact with Spalding Guardian while it is looking to establish a presence in the town it is not ready to talk.
South Holland District Council’s deputy leader Nick Worth hopes this could be a fresh boost for the area.
He said: “Any interest in that site has got to be good news for the area. It has to be good news for jobs and for the local economy.”
In the last few days David Woods has advertised production operatives for day and night shifts in Spalding - which are ‘urgently needed’.
The advert states: “We are a leading food manufacturing company with over 20 years’ experience in the bakery business.
“We currently produce a range of quality frozen ‘bake off’ and craft bakery products encompassing savoury pastry, sweet pastry, bread, morning goods and confectionery products from seven cutting-edge bakeries around the UK.
“We are looking for Production Operatives to join our fast growing team and business based in Spalding.”
It has also advertised for engineering roles.
Greater Lincolnshire Enterprise Partnership would not comment on the takeover but says it has been working to attract people to invest in the UK Food Valley in the county.
