Lincolnshire councillors approve speed reduction along A151 days after car clips Moulton fence

A car left a busy road and clipped a fence just days before a meeting to decide on reducing the speed limit.

Lincolnshire County Council’s Planning and Regulation Committee approved plans to reduce speeds from 60mph to 50mph on the A151 between Moulton and Weston, and from 50mph to 40mph through Moulton and between Moulton and Whaplode at yesterday’s meeting.

But Moulton parish councillor James Kirk is calling for a speed camera along the route after another car left the road and clipped his fence, which is on the A151 near the Fold’s Lane turning, on Saturday.

Speaking after Saturday’s incident he said: “No one can feel safe with the road as it is.

“The car which crashed clipped the fence but it’s not taken it down this time.

“It’s almost guaranteed that there will be another one in another four weeks time if something isn’t done.

“I can’t let my children walk 200 yards to the bus stop to catch the bus to school because it’s just not safe for them. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home.”

Lincolnshire county councillors voted unanimously to carry the motion in order to allow for the necessary consultation process to bring them into effect to be pursued.

The introduction of speed limit reductions has been investigated at the request of the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, with their data indicating that six serious and 15 slight reported injury accidents have occurred along the stretch of the A151 over the past five years.

Speaking during the meeting, county and South Holland district councillor Nigel Pepper supported the proposal to reduce the speed limit along the A151.

He said: “I know the area well.

“It’s a good recommendation from the Road Safety Partnership to bring this to our attention and I fully support it.”

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: “This incident was reported to us at 3:21pm on October 3.

“There was just the one vehicle involved and thankfully there were no injuries.

“Recovery of the vehicle, which had ended up in a ditch, took place that afternoon.”

Last week Coun Kirk stated that his fence had been damaged a total of eight times in the space of a year due to incidents on the A151.
