Captain Tom's 100th birthday: Hurricane and Spitfire fly over Lincolnshire to mark the army veteran's centenary
Squadron Leader Mark Discombe and Flight Lieutenant Andy Preece flew over the county this morning as they took part in a flypast to honour the 100th birthday of Captain Tom Moore.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) Hurricane LF363, flown by Sqn Ldr Discombe, Officer Commanding BBMF; and the Spitfire MK365, flown by Flt Lt Preece, took off from RAF Coningsby this morning (Thursday).
The aircraft completed three passes at Captain Tom Moore’s house in Bedfordshire.
Captain Tom, who has now been promoted to Colonel in recognition of his achievements, has raised almost £30million to support NHS charities.
Sqn Ldr Discombe said: “It was an exhilarating and humbling experience to celebrate Tom’s centenary and incredible fund-raising for the NHS in a fitting RAF fashion.”
