Spalding Flower Parade sponsored walk announced
It’s time to put your best foot forward for the Spalding Flower Parade.
As we edge ever closer to the revived event, every penny raised will be very welcome, with the latest fundraising exercise taking the form of a sponsored walk.
The walk will take in the Spalding Leisure Wheel route, which is about 12.5 miles, on Sunday, March 12.
Parade organiser Stephen Timewell has already had a go at the planned walk and says its a challenge which people of all abilities can try.
He said: “There’s actually a short route too but we are going to go for the long one.
“I’ve done it before and it’s certainly a good walk but it’s also flat.
“I’m not an avid walker but I could do it. I would say people of all abilities could do it.”
More than 50 people have already registered to take part in the walk, which Steve estimates will take about four hours to complete.
He said: “It’s not a race, it’s a nice leisurely walk.
“There’s a really good social aspect to it too where you’ll be able to meet new people.
“We already have 52 people registered to take part and we might look at staggering the start times so that we can safely get everyone around.
“I’m so pleased people are getting into the spirit of it.
“I’m hoping that each person will manage to raise about £20 or £30 through sponsorship, which will be a great help.”
For those who might not fancy the challenge, there’s still plenty of ways to raise a few pennies and pounds towards the parade.
A bingo night event will take place at Pinchbeck Village Hall on Friday, January 27, followed by a fundraising gig by Paisley Circus at Spalding Services Club on Saturday, February 4.
The parade, which will take place on May 13, is 123 days away - and while Steve has plenty of work ahead of him, he is looking forward to the big day.
“I’m very excited about it,” Steve added.
“There’s still so much work to do but I can’t wait.”
