Crowds Spring Into Spalding for popular event
Visitors arrived in their droves this weekend as a special event brought lots of springtime fun to Spalding.
There was something for everyone to enjoy, from a petting farm to live entertainment and vintage rides as the Spring into Spalding event took place.
As the sun beat down on the town, children’s favourites such as Peter Rabbit, Rapunzel and the Gruffalo spoke with the delighted youngsters while a comedy maypole workshop also took place.
Animal lovers were thrilled to see sheep, goats, a pony and even smaller animals such as ferrets as the petting farm proved a huge hit.
A stage was set up outside the Red Lion Hotel where live entertainment was provided by a range of different acts.
Those who were looking for a quieter experience in the sunshine got involved in planting spring flowers, creating a hotel for mini-beasts at the Nature Lab and crafts too.
South Holland District Council Chairman Paul Redgate was amongst the crowds. He said: “It was great to see so many people in the town again - families were out and young kids were enjoying the animals at the petting farm and the music on stage.
“We were very lucky with the weather as it brought a lot of people out and it was encouraging to see.
“I hope that we see more people coming to enjoy Spalding every weekend.
“We have some really good quality shops and independent stores in the town who without people coming in and supporting we would lose.
“We also hope that we can also encourage new stall holders to come and join the market.”
The day’s festivities were organised by the SHDC Communities Team supported by Welcome Back Funding through the European Regional Development Fund.
Coun Redgate added: “With the support of the Welcome Back grant, events like this are crucial to support our local market towns.”
Broad Street Methodist Church also be joined in the fun, with Mother’s Day card making, spring and Easter crafts, and hot and cold drinks available throughout the day.
