Little Miracles family fun day at Weston
'Star Wars versus Vikings' were among the attractions at the Little Miracles South Holland charity family fun day held on the Fun Farm field in Weston.
As well as the traditional stalls, raffle, tombola and face painting, community groups were represented, plus an assortment of cosplayers, dark ages re-enactors, birds of prey, and a chance to tackle activities like air rifle shooting.
The weather failed to dampen spirits of those fundraising for Little Miracles, which is a parent-led support group and charity for families with children that have additional needs, disabilities and life limiting conditions.
Saxon/Viking re-enactors Odin's Aett put on a display; while there were two Star Wars actors present: Chris Bunn, who was one of the original Stormtroopers, and Willie Coppen, who played an Ewok in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
Also appearing were community groups such as Whatever It May Be theatre troupe and Long Sutton Target Shooting Club, plus autistic performance poet and Spalding Today columnist Callum Brazzo.
The theatre group promoted their Pack Up! show for 3 to 7-year-olds which will be at Broad Street Methodist Church in Spalding on Friday, August 30, with performances at 2.30pm and 4pm.
Little Miracles events co-ordinator Liz Kilbon explained the purpose of this second family fun day: "The main aim is to raise awareness of some of the services we provide. Raising money is great, but raising awareness is even better."
The weather proved an obstacle to some activities and one of the casualties was a fancy dress and cosplay competition.
But participants improvised, as Liz said: "Turnout because of the drizzle wasn't as great as we hoped but everyone still pulled together.
"We had a battle between the Star Wars cosplayers and the Vikings which was unusual.
"We're raising money towards a purpose-built sensory support centre.
"We have fortnightly sessions in Spalding and Holbeach. We want to find somewhere where people can get to on a personal basis."
Little Miracles South Holland has now confirmed that this event, together with the Marathon In a Month and Lucky Squares, raised £1,406.50.
