Holbeach actor was a body double for Nick Frost
Acting roles have been few and far between for Steph Genovese this year, so he was delighted to get back in front of the camera - reprising his role as Nick Frost’s body double.
Like others working in the performing arts, Holbeach actor Steph has found many of his jobs postponed or cancelled due to coronavirus, so he was thrilled to be involved in Barclaycard’s new ad campaign.
Actor, comedian and screenwriter Nick Frost, whose acting credits include Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and World’s End, plays a variety of characters in the Sidekicks advert, which aims to help customers get credit confident.
Steph says it was his job to stand in for Nick during the early takes so the crew could work out the best camera angles and where Nick
would need to be during filming.
“It was great to be back in front of the cameras again, although a little nerve-wracking as it had been a good few months since I’d last acted,” says Steph, who has previously appeared in Sky One’s Fortitude, Transformer’s Dark Knight and the Star Wars franchise blockbuster Solo.
“I wore the same costumes as Nick, who plays characters including Dr Watson and a superhero, and I stood in so everyone could work out where
he needed to be for
filming.
“I’ve stood in for him before, in the films Fighting with My Family and Huntsman: Winters War and there are some scenes where my back and side view are used in the final cuts, but I’d never actually met him.
“This time, while I was out on the set, I caught sight of someone out the corner of my eye and it was Nick – he was watching me at work, so there was no pressure!
“We had a chat and gave each other an elbow bump, but unfortunately due to Covid we couldn’t get any pictures together.”
Steph, who is also a DJ and writes and directs his own film projects, is hopeful things are slowly starting to return to normal - he’s got another job lined up as Nick’s body double for a project called The Nevers, being filmed next year, and is awaiting the outcome of some Zoom auditions which could lead to more exciting roles.
