Ship which was stranded on the River Nene between Sutton Bridge and Wisbech has been freed




A stranded ship which ended up blocking the River Nene was freed last night.

The Baltic Arrow was making its way from Sutton Bridge to Wisbech Port when it became stuck around the West Walton area yesterday morning (Tuesday, June 26).

Wisbech Harbour Authority has confirmed that the ship was freed last night.

A spokesman said: “The Baltic Arrow ran aground on the morning of Tuesday (June 25) between Wisbech and Ferry Corner whilst carrying a cargo of timber. All staff and crew are safe and no injuries were reported.

“The Wisbech Harbour Authority freed the ship later that evening, allowing it to continue its onward journey into Wisbech under its own power.”
