Stretch of A16 in Spalding reopened after clean-up is complete
AFTERNOON UPDATE: The A16 in Spalding has now reopened after highways officers finished clearing the road.
Police have said that no-one was injured in the incident - in which a lorry had shed its load at about 5am this morning.
The force handed over the scene to Lincolnshire County Council's highways at about 9.15am for the road to be cleaned up.
A highways spokesman said that work was then completed by 'just after lunch time'.
The circumstances that led to the incident - and why the clean-up took several hours - are not yet known.
MID MORNING UPDATE: The A16 is still closed this morning both ways between the A151 Holbeach Road (McDonald's) and the B1165 Low Road (Sutton St James turn) after a lorry shed its load.
Police were called to the stretch at 5am.
The road remained closed and created congestion around the town.
Traffic is reportedly slow in many of the surrounding roads.
PREVIOUSLY: A stretch of the A16 is currently partially blocked in Spalding after a lorry shed its load. There has also subsequently been an accident nearby.
The impacted route is both ways between the A151 Holbeach Road (McDonald's) and the B1165 Low Road (Sutton St James turn).
The road was initially blocked but traffic is now able to pass, albeit slowly.
