Model orchestras, bird boxes and careers advice on Super Learning Day at Peele Community College, Long Sutton
Students were spoilt for choice on an activity-packed day at Long Sutton's Peele Community College before the half-term break.
The school's Super Learning Day included model making, internet safety advice and information on options for students after they leave Peele.
Creativity was let loose as Year 7 music students were challenged to make model orchestras out of any materials they chose to use.
School spokesman Jayne Simpson said: "Year 7 students have been learning about the orchestra this term and were tasked with creating their own three-dimensional model of an orchestra for their homework.
"They could create it out of any material they liked, on condition that it should be as accurate as possible.
"But first the students had to do some research on orchestras and then create it using this knowledge.
"Students used a range of materials to create their models, from paper and cardboard to clay and household products, coming up with any number of ingenious ways to represent each of the instruments and how they are set out in an orchestra.
"This project has allowed students to really think about how each of the instruments are formed and why particular instruments are placed in certain parts of the orchestra.
"We were very proud of the time and effort students put into this work and the level of detail that some students went to was impressive."
Year 7 students also spent the day designing and building a bird box, using maths to help them create the best three-dimensional model they could.
In addition, Super Learning Day offered a chance for students to hear about further and higher education options and career options in food production, banking and the armed forces.
Year 10 students had their physical and mental capabilities tested by the Royal Marines and also had the chance to meet representatives from Morrisons Supermarket, the College of West Anglia, which has campuses in King's Lynn and Wisbech, the University of Leicester and the Lincolnshire Outreach Network colleges partnership.
Finally, students in Year 9 were given life skills in creating healthy relationships and staying safe when using the internet.
