Mum praises Holbeach store staff after lost toddler wandered into shop
A boy of three who slipped away from home alone is safe and sound because he went to his favourite ice cream parlour.
Laddies Ices assistant Candice Ketteringham and a customer kept Jack Henderson company at the store in Church Street, Holbeach, before police reunited the youngster with his dad about an hour later.
Mum Kate Henderson told the Spalding Guardian: “Thank God for the staff at Laddies who looked after him until the police got there.
“I was contacted by Jack’s father after Jack had been found and taken to the police station – before this I had no knowledge he had even gone missing.
“I have been into Laddies and have been in contact with the lady who phoned the police and taken them both a card and box of chocolates each.
“I’m so glad a decent person found him – otherwise this situation could have ended completely different for my son. Jack was with his father for the weekend. I was on my way to work when I got the phone call to say he had gone missing and been found safe.”
Candice said Jack ran into the shop at about 2.45pm. She and a customer looked outside to see if his parents were nearby, and then kept him company until police arrived.
Jack was given a notepad and pen, and enjoyed some Meerkats sweets.
Candice said: “He was quite chatty – he wasn’t scared or anything, he was happy.”
Police said: “His father made contact with our officers and the boy was safely reunited with his dad.”
