Donington St Mary and the Holy Rood Church hosts ‘Swinging 60s’ week-long flower festival
Crocheted characters from The Magic Roundabout are among the displays visitors can see at a week-long flower festival.
St Mary and the Holy Rood Church in Donington is welcoming people to its annual flower show which opened on Friday and is running until Sunday, May 11 (10am-4pm).
With a ‘Swinging 60s’ theme visitors get to see displays depicting The Jungle Book, the funeral of Winston Churchill, Carnaby Street, The Sound of Music and Concorde.
Stella Thorold, whose daughter Sallyann Collette organised the festival, said: “It takes you down memory lane to the 1960s.
“We have not seen as many people as other years.
“It has been a little slower perhaps because of the weather.”
The hall is open for refreshments between 10am and 4pm daily with lunches served between 12pm and 2pm - with a special every day — and brighter weather is forecast as the week progresses.
Funds from the festival will go toward maintaining the church.
Stella added: “There is a long list of jobs that need doing.
“Raising funds for the upkeep is vital.”
