Bourne History Group member launches local history podcast series

A new series of podcasts exploring a town’s past has been launched by a local history enthusiast.

Steve Giullari is aiming to produce weekly podcasts exploring a range of topics through his Bourne History Guy Facebook page.

Taking it on as a new year challenge, Steve opened the series last week with the Holland family.

Future subjects will include Bourne Castle, BRM, the railways of Bourne, and Robert Manning, but the series will not be restricted to local history.

“I used to do videos but they took too much time so I’ve taken a step back from that to do something regular,” he said.

“We will be talking a lot about local history, but it won’t be confined to Bourne. People are interested in history no matter where it’s from.”

Steve, a member of Bourne History Group, is keen to get people engage with local heritage, particularly around his ongoing research into Bourne Castle.

This year he is also hoping to set up a drop-in local history clinic with a fellow group member to help people with queries, and organise an open day at the Wellhead.

"The podcast is for a different audience and I hope to get schools involved talking about local history,” he said.

“We’d like to get people to come on the show and talk about their experiences in Bourne and how they remember it, or if they have a special interest.

“It’s about trying to keep it varied and keep it interesting.”

He added: “The first one was off the cuff which is not something I normally like to do. Normally I would script them.

“When we do interviews, I want them to be off-the-cuff, too, and see what it progresses into.”
