Spalding taxi firm boss in new restaurant venture

The boss of a Spalding taxi firm is claiming triple firsts for the town when he opens a new restaurant with a charcoal grill, shisha smoking bar and Tango Ice Blast frozen drinks.

Mroof Choudry, of 1st Choice Royal Taxis, aims to open Rustic - on the site of the former Indus restaurant in Winsover Road - on or around January 20.

The restaurant will specialise in charcoal grilled steaks and home-made burgers, as well as serving desserts.

It will seat around 60 people grouped in custom-made booths to make it a more personal dining experience.

The shisha bar will be in the outdoor space behind the restaurant, part covered by a tented roof and part open, with seating for a further 40.

Shisha smoking - also known by names such as hookah or hubble bubble - is taking off in the big cities and Mroof said he wanted to bring it to Spalding.

“It’s a new trend,” he said. “In places like Birmingham and Bradford, shisha bars are like the new kind of nightclub.”

Traditionally, shisha pipes are a way of smoking tobacco or herbal tobacco through a bowl fitted with a hose or tube and often flavourings are added.

Mroof said: “There’s hundreds of flavours.”

The venture is also creating employment.

Mroof said: “It is going to create around 10 new jobs. The head chef is from London and he’s been in the industry for 27 years. Except the chef, everyone is local.”

The aim is for the restaurant, which will offer takeaways, to open from midday to 10pm seven days a week although Mroof says opening hours might run to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
