Temporary Post Office counter to open in Crowland while Spar store is repaired after ramraid

A temporary Post Office counter will be serving residents from next week while repairs are undertaken to the main branch following a ramraid.

Trader Arjun Parmar and his team are setting up a temporary Post Office counter in Firmin & Co site in North Street, Crowland, so residents will not have to travel for this vital service.

Mr Parmar had taken over the Crowland Spar shop just eight weeks before thieves used a stolen telehandler to rip the cash machine from the front of the North Street building, causing structural damage to the site.

This raid had left the town without a Post Office – forcing Crowland Cares to put on a weekly bus trip to Werrington in order for people who do not drive to use this service.

Mr Parmar is looking forward to opening a temporary counter.

He said: “It will be brilliant to be able to serve the community.

“I would like to say a big thank you to Firmin & Co for providing this space.

“We wanted to get the Post Office open quickly as that was the main problem in the village. At the end of the day, people were having to travel to pay their bills.”

The Post Office counter will be able to take letters, and parcels as normal along with helping with banking services such as paying council tax.

But there will be some restrictions as the team is currently not able to take payments for gas bills but it is hoped this will happen soon.

Repairs to the main store which was badly damaged during the early hours of December 27 after raiders had pulled the cashpoint from the site using a stolen telehandler.

Mr Parmar is expecting it to take until the spring before repairs are complete and his business can start to trade once more.

- The temporary counter will be open 9am-5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am-1pm on Saturdays.
