Young Dons Football Club hosts disco at Donington Community Centre with VIP appearance from Ali G - aka new club chairman
Footballers and their families wore fancy-dress to a disco at a community centre that featured a ‘VIP guest’.
Young Dons Football Club hosted a social event at Donington Community Centre as a way for members to get to know each other better - and the special guest Ali G looked suspiciously like the club’s new chairman.
The children’s football facility is run by volunteers and offers coaching to some 120 boys and girls aged four to16 of mixed ability.
Vicky Morris, secretary and welfare officer, said: “The aim of the club is to get young people playing football and teach them social skills.
“It helps the youngsters to prepare them for life in general and there are a lot of new people coming in.
“The disco was a social gathering to get parents together and to help create a family atmosphere.”
Her husband Gareth Morris, who dressed up as Ali G for the 70s 80s and 90s night, coaches at the club and recently become chairman, taking on the role previously held by Paul Clarke.
Some 100 members and their families attended the fun event where there was a raffle and some fundraising for the club.
Mrs Morris has been secretary at the club for more than three years - the duo manage to put aside the fact that she and Gareth support different football teams, Manchester United and Liverpool - and their son is also a keen player.
Mrs Morris said: “Football is our life.
“It was a good night and the main aim of it was for people to get to know each other.
“The club is mixed ability and gender and we are trying to get as many girls as we can.”
Volunteers and new players are always welcome to join the club.
