Friends of Johnson Hospital keep on giving at their annual fair

For more than 60 years a group of kind-hearted volunteers have been supporting Spalding's hospital patients and staff.

On Saturday, the Friends of Johnson Community Hospital continued their hard work at their annual fair, raising around £1,600, which will go towards helping provide equipment, comfort and care for patients.

This year, the fair, held in the grounds of the hospital on Spalding Road in Pinchbeck, also marked the 70th year anniversary of the National Health Service.

Visitors browsed more than 20 stalls and games, manned by members of the Friends and other organisations, including the Spalding Lions, Pinchbeck WI and Spalding's St Paul's Church. Music was provided by the Ukulele Orchestra of Spalding.

The Friends treasurer, Elisabeth Britten, said: "It's quite special. People come year after year. We have good entertainment and it is a good event socially."

The Friends provide a trolley service in the hospital and fundraising helps to pay for children's toys, a Christmas carol service, flowers on Mothering Sunday and more.

They also help to fund equipment that is not normally available within the NHS budget and are currently supporting the development of a comfort room in the outpatients department and a small kitchen area for day patients.
