Students at Spalding Grammar and Spalding High School to perform all singing and dancing West Side Story
Secondary school performers will take to the stage in an all singing and dancing tale of rivalry and romance.
Students at Spalding Grammar and Spalding High School are performing West Side Story - backed by a live orchestra - on Thursday, February 27, and Friday, February 28.
A classic story of forbidden love - based on William Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet - takes the audience back to 1950s Manhattan where rival gangs the Sharks and the Jets fight each other for their right to rule.
Alex Howman, director of music at Spalding Grammar School, said, “The students have put their hearts and souls into rehearsals and we can’t wait for audiences to see their efforts live on stage.
“As well as having hugely talented actors, singers, musicians and dancers, we are also very lucky to have a great backstage crew of pupils looking after elements like sound, lights and props.
“It’s a real team effort to put on this production and I am so proud of them for all their hard work.”
The plot follows the tragic tale of forbidden love between former Jet Tony and Maria - the sister of the Shark’s leader.
Mrs Howman added: ‘We welcome everyone along whether you have connections with the schools or not.
“Come and share the magic of this much-loved musical with us.
“I’m confident you will leave with a smile on your face and one of its well-known songs in your head.”
The production takes place in the Grammar school’s main hall at 7pm.
Tickets cost £8 for adults and £6 for those aged 16 and under - available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/spalding-grammar-school.
