Pinchbeck Tappers classes restart welcoming new members at St Mary’s Church Hall
Fleet footed folk are being encouraged to join a weekly tap dancing group — as lessons begin again this autumn.
Nicky Lavis started the Pinchbeck Tappers some 20 years ago and has recently welcomed the first gentleman to the group, who is 91.
She said: “I have always danced and ballet is my first love.
“I went back to dancing in my late thirties and thought why not start up my own class?
“I just love it and we have a lot of laughs.”
New members and beginners are welcome to join the group to make friends and learn to tap.
The group has also raised money for Breast Cancer Now and enjoys a Christmas celebration.
Mrs Lavis said: “It’s really fun.
“There is a social aspect which is important for the older generation to make connections.
“They are a lovely bunch of ladies.”
Classes are available for beginners, intermediates and those who want to improve and there are opportunities to perform routines in public but there is no pressure.
Mrs Lavis said: “In the last couple of years we have been asked to perform at care homes.
“Not everyone wishes to, so some just come to classes.
“It’s only for those who want to do so.”
The group will be involved in the Love Your Heart wellbeing event at the Pinchbeck Community Hub on September 19 from 10am until 3pm.
It supports residents with their physical and mental health and introduces taster sessions from services in the area.
Pinchbeck Tappers next meet tomorrow (Wednesday, September 4) at St Mary’s Church Hall, Pinchbeck with a beginners class at 10.15am followed by intermediates at 11.30am.
