Team’s first Spalding ball raised thousands for Children With Cancer UK
A glitzy ball had revellers dancing the night away while raising thousands for research into childhood cancers.
The first ever Hope Ball was held at Springfields Events and Conference Centre at the weekend, organised by a team of friends with the same aim.
Having been inspired by a friend’s son who has been diagnosed with cancer, Fay Hirel, who headed up the organising committee, wanted to raise money for Children With Cancer UK.
The team made sure 360 people had great fun on Saturday night, with music from band Boomin, a DJ set by Shaun Neal plus music bingo.
“It was an amazing night and everyone had a great time,” she said.
“The dance floor was full all night long. There were times when I just stood there and thought ‘I can’t believe we’ve done this’.
“I’d like to thank all of the businesses who have supported us.”
The usual event staples of a raffle, auction and photo booth also went down a treat with guests.
While a final total is yet to be totted up, it is thought the event brought in about £16,000 for the cause.
“We are so pleased,” Faye said.
“It’s the first one we’ve done and it was just brilliant.
“Unbelievably, we are now in the process of finalising the date for next year which is really exciting.”
