Money is rolling in as Spalding Flower Parade takes shape
As the money rolls in and plans for floats take shape, the man behind the revived Spalding Flower Parade continues to be ‘blown away’ by the support.
Stephen Timewell launched his campaign to reignite the legendary event just eight weeks ago but has already secured about £16,000 in funding and sponsorship.
He also has 32 floats planned to take part, featuring a mobile nightclub, hairstyles through the years, marching bands and even an army of 33 Star Wars characters.
Not only this, but Stev is also working to encourage coach trips to visit on May 6, 2023 and says hotels are booking up quickly.
He said: “It’s fantastic.
“It’s only been a few weeks but we’re doing so well.
“Everything I ask for online, I get it and it’s just blown me away.
“It’s lovely and there’s been no negatives. It could have gone pearshaped and a few people said it would but we’ve proved them wrong.”
Next week, Steve will be making a trip to the Jersey Battle of Flowers event where he will meet with organisers and gain inspiration for our parade.
He said: “Thankfully, I managed to get the last ticket on the plane over. We would never be able to compete with the event but it will be really nice to see how they do it.
“We also plan to do an exchange with them so that our Spalding Ambassador will be there next year and theirs will be part of our parade too. That would be really good for South Holland.”
