CPRE Lincolnshire's Best Kept Villages and Small Towns for 2019 are announced, with Long Sutton and Sutterton among them.

Long Sutton and Sutterton are the pride of south-east Lincolnshire in this year's Best Kept Villages and Small Towns competition.

The results in four classes were announced on Tuesday, with Long Sutton successful in the Small Market Towns category, while Sutterton was judged ahead of Fleet for Medium-Sized Villages.

Forty towns and villages entered the competition which started in 1953, with the Campaign to Protect Rural England's (CPRE) branch in Lincolnshire having run it since 1962.

It was the second award in as many weeks for Long Sutton after the town's In Bloom volunteers won a Silver Gilt at the East Midlands in Bloom (EMiB) Awards last Wednesday.

Kay Jenkinson, chairman of Long Sutton in Bloom, said: "One of the differences between the two competitions is that, unlike the EMiB one, you don't know when the CPRE judges are coming.

"So I'm delighted to know that Long Sutton has won because it shows that the whole town has deserved it."

Coun Dale Frith, chairman of Long Sutton Parish Council, said: "We entered the town in the CPRE competition and it was judged on the whole ethos and community spirit of the town.

"Therefore, it's nice to get recognition for the fact that Long Sutton is an enjoyable place, with the many facilities and organisations that it offers, and I think this Small Market Towns award is well-deserved."

Coun John Fitchett, chairman of Sutterton Parish Council, said: "We're very pleased about the award which means quite a lot, having won it previously in 2014, and the majority of villagers will see it as something to be proud of."
