Nominations open for sixth Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian Education Awards

Education Awards.

Pupils, staff and governors from pre-schools, primaries and secondary schools across south Lincolnshire are being recognised for thriving during a year like no other.

The awards we had planned for 2020 fell victim to the coronavirus pandemic as did so many other events. But, fingers crossed, we can honour worthy recipients once again, at the South Holland Centre in Spalding on Thursday, July 8.

And those nominated this year will be so worthy, with teachers and pupils alike having to adjust to home learning and different practices when back together.

Guardian editor Jeremy Ransome said: “We have some wonderful educational establishments in the district and these awards celebrate the many achievements in our schools. Please take the chance to nominate and take the chance to get some deserved recognition for students and teachers who have made a difference in the most difficult of years.”

At our last awards, held in the summer of 2019, Spalding Monkshouse Primary and Spalding High School were named Schools of the Year, while the town’s BeBright Pre-School took the early years prize.

Weston Hills Primary School and South View Primary School, Crowland, took the group awards for Environmental and Contribution in the Community respectively.

Georgie Van Dyke, of Spalding High School, and Sally Donaldson, of The Deepings School, were named individual winners in the same categories.

Steven Coote, head boy at Willoughby School, Bourne, accepted the Student of the Year Award.

Poppy Gill, of Spalding High School, won the Outstanding Sporting Achievement Award.

Shelby Mombourquette, of Peele Community College, Long Sutton, and Zoe West, of Kirton Primary School, won the Most Inspirational Teacher awards.

Amy Davey, of Willoughby School, won the Support Staff Award.
