Spalding arrest - police find items 'used in burglary and theft' during search of person

Police in Spalding have given more details about an arrest of a person overnight while patrolling the town centre overnight.

The person was arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal, a week after the latest in a series of break-ins across the town centre over a spell of less than two weeks.

A hair salon and charity shop, both in Station Street, as well as a cafe/takeaway in The Crescent and a carpet warehouse in Abbey Passage, were all burgled between September 17 and 28.

There is no indication at this stage that the person arrested is being connected with any of the burglary incidents.

Inspector Nick Waters, neighbourhood policing inspector for South Holland, said: "The arrest followed a stop and search by officers in Spalding town centre.

"Some items, which could be used in burglary and theft, were located on an individual and they were subsequently arrested.

"They remain in custody and the investigation continues."
