The demolition of Gosberton-based car showroom have prompted fears of an increase in traffic

Plans for a new car showroom and service centre in Gosberton have raised concerns about a possible increase in traffic near the village’s primary school.

The owners of Discount Motors want to redevelop their current site in High Street by demolishing all four existing buildings.

One of the buildings was once used as a petrol station and a chip shop, another building is the base for the firm’s car maintenance and servicing work, while a third building is used as a site office.

But parish councillors are concerned that the development could result in more traffic outside Gosberton Academy, increasing the risks to schoolchildren and pressure on parking spaces.

A statement on behalf of Discount Motors said: "The site is currently a car sales area, with much of the front yard used as a sales forecourt.

"There are four buildings on the site which will eventually all be demolished to allow for the new development.

"None of the buildings are of particular architectural or historic value and redevelopment of the site will allow the business to continue to operate into the future.

"The general appearance of the site will be improved by an increase in building quality."

But a Gosberton Parish Council spokesman said: "Concerns have been expressed over an increase in traffic near to the primary school and problems with parking, particularly at school times."
