Motorists reporting traffic delays in Pinchbeck and Spalding with road closed as part of A16 roundabout works

Motorists are expecting heavy traffic this morning — as an eight-week road closure begins.

As previously reported, the B1180 will be shut between the A16 and the roundabout with West Marsh Road from today as part of works to revamp the A16 roundabout.

The short road is used by a large number of heavy vehicles travelling to and from the Wardentree Lane industrial estate.

Drivers are experiencing queues through Pinchbeck this morning, with traffic coming through the village instead of the A16 as a result of the works. The official diversion route takes motorists off the A16 at Surfleet and the along the A152 link road, through both villages and onto Wardentree Lane from the west.

Traffic is also reportedly heavier than normal on Holbeach Road.

When the works were announced, Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said “The eight-week closure will allow the project team safe working space to complete utility works at this area of site, as well as building additional entry and exit lanes onto the new roundabout.

“We’ll also be taking the opportunity to lay new road surfacing and install new signage and street lighting columns here.”

The B1180 and McDonalds roundabouts are both undergoing works as part of a ‘Levelling Up’ project to try to boost traffic flows.
