Trains cancelled at Spalding after reports of track defect

Trains were cancelled over the weekend following reports of a track defect.

Services from Spalding Railway Station did not run on Saturday morning (July 12) while Network Rail engineers investigated the reports of an issue with a nearby section of track.

This follows on from an issue on Thursday night when the Winsover Road Levelling Crossing was shut to cars - creating mayhem in the town - while a new power pack was fitted.

A Network Rail spokesman said that the two issues were not connected.

A spokesman said: “Following reports of a potential track defect near Spalding, train services were temporarily suspended whilst engineers carried out safety inspections. After thorough investigation, the track was deemed safe and normal service resumed at approximately 2pm.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to passengers during this disruption.”
