Tribute paid to Spalding area woman who raised money for breast cancer charities
Tribute has been paid to a ‘cherished’ colleague who raised thousands of pounds for breast cancer charities after overcoming the disease.
Teresa Walton (55), who sadly died on Tuesday last week, will be well-known throughout the area for giving something back to the fight against breast cancer with her dedication to fundraising and her refusal to give up.
Mrs Walton, who lived in the Spalding area, also shared her story to encourage more women to check themselves.
She was also well-known for working in the Spalding’s Wilko store in Holland Market and manager Montana McCoy has paid tribute to her.
She said: “Teresa was a valued and cherished member of our Wilko family, we are devastated by her tragic loss, and we send our heartfelt condolence to her family and friends .
“Teresa touched so many lives, with her own health battles that she overcome and her relentless efforts raising money for breast cancer charities.
“We will miss her greatly and we send our sincere condolences to her family and many friends during this tragic time.”
Last year Mrs Walton shared her story while raising money for Breast Cancer Now by delivering afternoon teas and running in the virtual London Marathon.
Her journey began when a one centimetre lump was discovered at the back of her breast during a routine screening appointment in 2019.
In June last year Mrs Walton told the Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian: “I would definitely encourage more women to go for their mammograms.”
Mrs Walton went on to have three biopsies, three mammograms and an ultrasound in the following weeks to confirm if the lump was cancerous.
Surgeons also went on to remove the lump and she had radiotherapy treatment.
Throughout her treatment, Mrs Walton refused to give up running.
She told us last year: “I was determined to keep running as I was not going to let it beat me.
“I wasn’t going to let it change my life that much.”
