Pinchbeck United Football Club describe sad loss of ‘Mr Pinchbeck’ Tom Healey ahead of funeral
The death of a ‘true gentleman’ who committed more than 30 years to a football club has been described as a ‘sad loss’.
Tom Healey served in many roles at Pinchbeck United Football Club - president, chairman, secretary, committee member, trainer and even referee.
Known as ‘Mr Pinchbeck’ for his devotion to the club he was well respected for his dedication and involvement over three decades.
Current chairman Gary Coombs said: “He was called Mr Pinchbeck as he was always at the club.
“His work across many roles within the club will never be forgotten.
“He was a true gentleman and will be missed by everyone that knew him - it is a sad loss to the football club.”
Mr Healey was made a lifetime member of the Peterborough League and Lincs FA and throughout his time won clubman of the year a record number of 15 times.
In the mid 1970s he was manager and secretary of the Ship Inn in Pinchbeck Sunday league team and his love of the game led him to become trainer at Pinchbeck United later on.
Lewis Thorogood, head of football and first team manager, said: “Pinchbeck United wouldn't be where it is today without people like Tom steering it through and creating the platform that has got us to where we are today.
“Our thanks have to go to him and the impact he had on the club.
“The time, effort and hours that he put in and handing the baton over - that is why we are here today.”
Mr Healey was voted onto the committee in 1982 and started picking up more duties, becoming club secretary in 1984.
By the end of the decade he became chairman for the first time and by the end of the 1990s he picked the role up for a second time.
He was also fundamental in the building and transformation of the club house and changing rooms from an old wooden hut.
Mr Thorogood added: “He was a very respected man and he clearly lived and breathed the association.
“The club has got a long way to go in terms of growing and moving.
“We will continue to grow the club and develop it in a sustainable and successful way.”
Mr Healey’s funeral will be taking place on March 28 at Surfleet crematorium, at 12pm.
