Weston Stephen Martin inquest: Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust says it is committed to improvements

Leaders of a health trust say that 'considerable changes' have been made in the last two years following an inquest into the death of a Weston man.

An inquest was held earlier today into the death of Stephen Martin (46), who was found dead at home on January 18, 2019, and a verdict of suicide was recorded.

Mr Martin's wife Sarah has paid tribute to her her husband but hopes other families do not go through a similar experience.

Chris Higgins, Director of Operations at Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Martin’s family at this sad time.

"We are absolutely committed to providing good quality care and following every unexpected patient death we carry out a thorough internal investigation, including a detailed action plan to address any lessons learned.

“We have made considerable changes to how we involve and communicate with carers and family over the last two years. We now have dedicated carer champions on our wards, who help support carers and families with information and advice and ensure they are fully involved in care planning and decision making.

“Whilst the Coroner did not identify any specific areas in which the trust contributed to Mr Martin’s death, and acknowledged that appropriate learning had taken place, we remain committed to continually improving our patient and carer experience.”
