Spalding Flower Parade organiser reveales dates of cropping tulips owned by Terrington St Clement company
Dates of the tulip cropping day ahead of the parade have been revealed.
About 80 acres of tulips, grown by P.S and J.E Ward, from Terrington St Clement, will be used to decorate a raft of floats
This week, organiser Stephen Timewell revealed that the tulips will be cut just days before the parade takes place.
He said: “They will be cut on the Wednesday and Thursday and then the pinning will take place on the Thursday and Friday too.
“All volunteers are welcome - we are going to need a lot of people to come and help out.
The Spalding Grammar School pupils are planning to come and help for a few hours, along with the Guides and other community groups.”
In the event of a milder spring, meaning the tulips grow quicker, Steve says cropping will be brought forward and a cold store is ready to be used if required.
However, if Steve’s plans go swimmingly, it will be all hands to the pump in the final hours of the run up to the event.
