Spalding Flower Parade volunteers spend ‘mammoth’ day tulip picking and encourage more helpers

Tulip picking has begun in earnest ahead of a town’s event that is now only a few days away.

Volunteers have been busy picking tulips at a private farm in Norfolk ahead of Spalding Flower Parade, which takes place on Saturday from 11am. It will begin and end at Springfields Events and Conference Centre.

The tulips heads are pinned to floats - so that they are as fresh as possible - and volunteers are still needed to help the efforts.

Volunteers started picking tulips yesterday (Wednesday, May 7).

Speaking afterwards Laura Hudson, the parade’s creative lead, said: “Wow what a day.

“First mammoth day of tulip picking done.

“If you would like to come and help please do come and spare as much time as you can.”

This year’s parade has a musical theme and the event - resurrected by Stephen Timewell in 2023 - is set to attract thousands of visitors to Spalding.

Live music from Not Taylor Swift, Badness and Abba Orbit tribute acts will also be taking place over the weekend.

Crowds are expected and there are road closures in place.
