TYDD ST MARY PARISH COUNCIL: Size matters for Glebe Community Pavilion

Question marks over the suitability of Tydd St Mary's community building have emerged, with claims that its size means it lacks "versatility".

Parish councillors are hoping to hold talks with the Diocese of Lincoln, Tydd St Mary Playing Field Committee and villagers about Glebe Community Pavilion.

The building was officially opened in June 2017 after a 14-year, £51,000 fundraising project started after the building it replaced was destroyed by fire in May 2003.

During Thursday's parish council meeting, vice chairman Coun Nicolette Evans said: "We were restricted by the diocese whereby we couldn't build outside of the boundary line laid down.

"When the pavilion was finished and signed off, it was absolutely fine for us.

"But now it's got limited use because of the site it is and the pavilion is not as versatile as it could have been."

The main users of the building are Tydd St Mary Football Club and the primary school, while other groups use the village hall in Main Road.

Coun Evans said: "We lost a little bit of room off the kitchen.

"But the problem is that things change so let's keep our fingers crossed that we can do some things there."

. A budget of more than £1,800 has been agreed for improvements to Tydd St Mary's Common Pit site.

Labour, materials and the use of a digger are all included in the budget for work that had to be carried over from 2017-18.

Coun Evans said that a new barrier is to be put around the site, wildflowers planted and sewage cleared in order to make the area more attractive for visitors to Common Pit.
