Holbeach school puts in plans for £2.3million after securing flagship T-level qualifications
A secondary school is hoping to embark on a £2.3 million building project after being selected to provide new flagship qualifications.
University Academy Holbeach is among the 88 schools and colleges nationally which have been selected to provide T-level courses, which are an alternative qualification to A-levels, from September.
The school has submitted a planning application to build a state-of-the-art nine classroom block in order to support the four T-levels.
Introduced in 2020, the new qualifications combine classroom learning and an extended industry placement.
Principal Sheila Paige is pleased to have been selected by the Department of Education to provide these qualifications.
She said: “We are delighted to have been successful in our bid to deliver our first suite of T-Levels from 2022.
“UAH is one of few school and colleges in the country to have been selected to deliver four of these exciting qualifications. This reflects the strong reputation we have for meeting the needs of learners in the area through our success in providing A -levels, technical and vocational qualifications and our successful apprenticeship programmes.
“The addition of T-levels enables us to build on our aim of supporting all of our learners to achieve their goals and support our region. The academy will utilise the strong links we have with the University of Lincoln (our sponsors) and local employers to ensure that are young people will be well supported by our partners and skilled teaching staff.”
T-levels are two-year courses and are the equivalent of three A-levels. Subjects range from engineering, accounting, catering, agriculture, animal care and legal services.
The UAH, which is part of the University of Lincoln Academy Trust, is due to be provide four T-levels, including Health Science.
School leaders submitted a planning application to South Holland District Council to construct the new building last week.
The building would allow the temporary classrooms to be removed.
One of the rooms will be a health and science lab for healthcare related subjects - with an accompanying prep room and technicians office as well.
In addition to this room, the block would contain a further three general teaching rooms on the ground floor and five general teaching rooms on the upper floor.
There would also be a toilet, plant room, server room and cleaners store. The land is currently an open area of hardstanding within the school’s site.
The school is close to the National Centre for Food Manufacturing, which is based in Park Road, and the South Lincolnshire Food Enterprise Zone.
