COVID-19 Spalding vaccinations to start next week

Spalding will have a COVID-19 vaccination centre up and running next week and Springfields Events Centre will be the venue for the facility.

There is also hope that a 'roving' centre could then make its way to the Holbeach/Suttons area, after Prime Minister Boris Johnson said no-one should have to travel more than 10 miles to get vaccinated.

Although health officials are still keeping tight-lipped about the plans, extremely reliable sources have told Spalding Today that by this time next week the facility will be up and running.

The move comes two days after MP Sir John Hayes expressed the need for the vaccination centre to Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the House of Commons. Leader of South Holland District Council Gary Porter also said earlier today he had heard a centre would be up and running by next Saturday.

Although keeping tight lipped about definite plans, Mr Hayes confirmed: "The Prime Minister contacted me after my question in the house and made assurances of his plan that people would not have to travel more than 10 miles to have their vaccination, so the work we have been doing is bearing fruit.

"All I can say at the moment is that I have been pushing very hard, have put my point across very clearly, and I am sure I have been listened to and I am extremely confident we will have something in South Holland very soon.

"It is also important we then have something to serve those people in Holbeach, Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge and that's what my next campaign will be. People should not have to travel to Peterborough, Lincoln or Stamford and some elderly folk would not even be able to."
