Second World War veterans invited to collect special medal at Fleet Hargate event

A charity worker is hoping to present special medals to Second World War veterans during a Remembrance celebration later this week.

Harold Payne is well-known for making pilgrimages to Normandy over the last 30 years when he has taken First and Second World War service men to pay tribute at friends who had died during the conflicts.

While many South Holland veterans have passed away, Mr Payne is keen to continue to honour the men who fought for our country all those years ago and has created some medals to present.

He said: “These are the last of the veterans – many will be in their 100s now.”

He is putting together a special celebration at the Anglia Motel in Fleet Hargate on Sunday to mark Remembrance Day.

A celebration will be held in a beautifully decorated ‘hanger’ complete with parachutes and military vehicles.

Entertainment will include a 1940s singer, Glen Miller style band and much more.

There will also be a poppy drop.

Tickets cost £15.

If you are a veteran or would like to buy a ticket please contact Mr Payne and the team at the Anglia Motel on 01406 422766.
