Spalding woman who was deputy Flower Queen and town primary school teacher is heading Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice's fundraising drive
Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice is searching for inspirational people in the Spalding area who want to make a real difference in their community and raise vital funds.
The hospice, which is in Peterborough, cares for people in the surrounding region who have life-limiting conditions, as well as their families.
Proud Spalding resident Vicki Lunn has become the hospice’s new community fundraising and operations officer. She is keen to increase awareness of its care and encourage residents, groups and businesses in her home town to help raise crucial funds.
Vicki, who has lived in Spalding all her life, previously worked for Spalding-based charity Haemochromatosis UK and has been a primary school teacher in the town, as well as in Weston Hills.
Vicki, whose local claim to fame was being chosen as the deputy Flower Queen at the Spalding Flower Parade in 2003, said: “I am a local girl supporting a local hospice, which provides care for local people. I am passionate about how the end of people’s lives should be filled with treasured memories, family and friends, and kindness and love.
“I want to raise awareness of Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice and spread the word about the amazing support we offer to patients and their families.
“Our compassionate care relies on the generosity of local people, communities and organisations raising vital funds for us. It means we can be there for more families when it matters, helping them fill their precious last days with love.
“We are calling out to local residents, groups and businesses in Spalding to consider fundraising for Sue Ryder, to help make sure we can continue providing our care.
“There are so many fun and exciting ways to support our work through fundraising. You could organise a coffee morning, a bake sale, quiz or raffle. If you fancy an adventure, you could put a team together and sign up for a challenge such as trekking Snowdon by Night. Or you could step out for a sponsored ramble or dog walk in our beautiful Lincolnshire countryside.
“With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee approaching, we’d love for people to come together and organise their own celebrations to raise much-needed funds for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.
“Fundraising is a great way to meet new people, have fun and help us be there when it matters. Anyone who would like to fund raise will be supported every step of the way by our friendly hospice fundraising team. We would love to hear your ideas.”
